Network & Security Engineer (3rd Level) - fully remote

We are supporting a leading client in the search for an experienced Network & Security Engineer (3rd Level) to join their IT team and take responsibility for the operation, optimization, and security of production network infrastructures. This is a fully remote opportunity with a chance to work on complex, high-impact projects across diverse customer environments.

Your responsibilities:

• Operate, optimize, and maintain network infrastructures using products from Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, and Extreme Networks.

• Monitor network performance and security, applying industry best practices.

• Plan, implement, and manage complex network changes, ensuring minimal operational disruption.

• Lead technical subprojects and coordinate system migrations, software updates, and release management.

• Handle advanced 2nd and 3rd level support requests, documenting incidents, problems, and changes in a central ticketing system.

• Collaborate with vendors and external service providers to resolve specialized issues.

• Identify and address security risks using various security technologies and protocols.

• Support the transition from professional services to operations and provide training for operational teams.

• Define, optimize, and automate operational processes to increase efficiency.

• Create and maintain operational manuals and technical documentation to support network operations and regulatory compliance.

Your profile:

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in network and security engineering.

• Deep knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, SNMP, FTP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP) and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS).

• Strong understanding of VPN technologies and secure network architectures.

• Extensive experience configuring and operating network devices, firewalls, and security systems.

• Knowledge of network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, Zabbix) and network analysis tools (Wireshark, Tcpdump).

• Advanced scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automating operational tasks.

• ITIL experience, particularly in incident, problem, and change management.

• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure.

• Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.
